A seven-day evidence exercise

Build self-trust by keeping small promises.

On this page, self-trust means confidence that you will act in line with a small, specific promise—or respond honestly when you do not. It is a working definition for this exercise, not a diagnosis or measure of mental health. Start with one observable promise and keep a seven-day evidence ledger.

A narrow working definition

The five-part small-promise test

  1. Chosen.The promise is yours, not imposed for this exercise.
  2. Observable.A completed day has a finish line you can describe.
  3. Small.The minimum fits an ordinary difficult day.
  4. Cued.The action follows a time, place, or existing event.
  5. Honest.The missed-day rule is written before you need it.
After lunch, I will read one page.
At 9 p.m., I will write one honest sentence.
Before closing my laptop, I will name tomorrow’s first task.
When appropriate for my ability and conditions, I will walk for five minutes.

Do not add promises during the seven-day test. Keep the record accurate after a miss. On Day 7, count results, identify one obstacle, and decide whether to continue, modify, or stop.
